Nur nicht nach Haus
28 March – 16 May 2026
Elektrohalle Rhomberg is pleased to present the second solo exhibition by Tammy Langhinrichs (b. 1995, Hamburg). A 2023 MFA graduate of Andreas Slominski at HFBK Hamburg, Langhinrichs has gained swift recognition for her sculptural practice. Her work has been featured, among others, in a solo presentation with the gallery at Art Düsseldorf 2024, as well as a group exhibition at the Salzburger Kunstverein in 2025, and is represented in the permanent collection of the Salzburg Museum.
The stretcher frames covered, layered, and spanned with fabric are images in the sense that they are image-carriers wich are dressed by textile. Thus they carry associations with craft and global production and can bear witness to intimacy, closeness, and resistance alike. The picture planes conceive of identities through fragmentation and patchwork as units assembled from fragments. Somewhere between collage and assemblage, they form themselves into tableaux that allow for pragmatic and personal points of reference. Compositionally, the works recall avant-garde positions in painting, humorously updated — as if a Color Field painter, stripped of raw canvas and pigment, had been forced to source their supports from a second-hand clothing bin.
Centering on a "tale of bandits," the exhibition features sympathetic outsiders and distorted balaclavas that shift from symbols of threat into playful, comic motifs. By focusing on the fundamental structure of clothing - as a series of openings designed for the body - Langhinrichs frames these vestimentary vehicles not as mere coverings, but as essential conditions for identity, intimacy, and shelter.
