We are delighted to present a solo booth with works by Tammy Langhinrichs (1995 born in Hamburg, Germany).
The artist, who recently finished her studies with Andreas Slominski at HFBK Hamburg, asks questions about identity attributions in connection with cultural arrangements of meaning and memory. The social and personal connotations of clothing, which are persistent carriers of concepts of the body and gender, are made tangible in the artist's textile sculptures in a spacial manner. In lying, standing and leaning poses, the anthropomorphic figures encounter the viewer just human enough to be approachable. An essential component of the artistic confrontation is textile and also fashion. Fashion, which always arises from the social rootedness of human nature, is cultural expression and selfrepresentation, is inclusion and demarcation, can be a symbol of being uniformed or of standing out. Fashion is textile in an identity-creating framework: it connects, separates, defines and opens.
