Florian Donnerstag

Born 1990 in Salzburg, lives and works in Munich and Mondsee.

Donnerstag completed his architecture degree in Innsbruck before studying at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich under Prof. Markus Oehlen. He was appointed Meisterschüler in 2023 and furthered his practice in the class of Prof. Andreas Breunig. He graduated with a Diploma in February 2024.

His artistic practice explores the tension between form and composition, treating "content" as a purely formal, visual element. His works function as dissonant collages, merging analog drawings, found objects, and AI-generated fragments from a personal archive to reflect on collective memory and visual overload. Central to his work is the concept of divided attention, mirroring the contemporary struggle between multitasking and the desire for focus. While his approach is multimedia in nature, painting remains his primary medium.

Through a combination of constructive and deconstructive strategies, Donnerstag aims to disrupt fixed meanings, creating a multi-layered, "anti-symbolic" visual language that remains semantically open.
